Hafnarbakki hf. was founded on September 8, 1988. The company that was majority owned by Eimskipafélag íslands hf. had the main purpose of providing services related to transportation. The company handled, among other things, the import and distribution of salt, which Eimskip had been doing under the name Eimsalt.
